Google Take Data Sharing to New Level

Google’s latest move will ensure that all data will be shared between all of its services. The web giant claims this will enable them to better tailor search results.

This will make Google’s business model stronger as they make revenue through targeted ads, which requires collecting data on consumer’s web behaviour.

However as perhaps would be expected this has come under great criticism, particularly in France where the legality of such an implementation has been queried.

The French organisation CNIL has been at the centre of the questioning and have wrote to Google urging a pause in rolling out the new innovation.

However Google are reaching a size now which allows them to be very casual in their response to such Watchdog organisations.

Google have thus rejected the request to put a hold on the move  and are switching over to the new single policy shortly after midnight on March 1st.

“As we’ve said several times over the past week, while our privacy policies will change on 1st March, our commitment to our privacy principles is as strong as ever,” Mr Fleischer.

There are a lot of sources online which are pointing people towards how they can access and delete their browsing history through logging onto google.com/history.

However despite this as well as Google’s own efforts to generate public awareness, there are many people which believe not enough is being done.

The Director of Big Brother Watch, Nick Pickles had this to say, “if people don’t understand what is happening to their personal information, how can they make an informed choice about using a service?”

Google is putting advertisers’ interests before user privacy and should not be rushing ahead before the public understand what the changes mean.”
