Press Releases from Backup Technology

Backup Technology launches ClouDRaaS, a one click Disaster Recovery Service

Backup Technology today launches ClouDRaaS, a new ‘one click’ Cloud Disaster Recovery service offering cost-effective, automated DR.

ClouDRaaS from BTL is a disaster recovery service that solves the problem of production-ready DR with one simple click of the mouse. It is based on hypervisor-based replication software from Zerto which does away with snapshots and delivers DR that never impacts performance, with RPOs of seconds and RTOs of minutes.

One of the largest providers of further education in London is already using ClouDRaaS from BTL. Havering Sixth Form College, which has approximately 2400 full-time students, says it has resulted in an improved approach to DR.

Graham Francis, Director of Continuous Improvement at Havering Sixth Form College, explains: “It’s given us an enterprise class DR solution for our production infrastructure with a predictable pricing structure. We didn’t have to upgrade our network, storage or servers and we are seeing RPOs of seconds, with significantly reduced RTOs achieved during the regular testing. ClouDRaaS fits seamlessly into our existing infrastructure and is delivering extremely high service levels.”

ClouDRaaS from BTL offers the following benefits:

  • Quick and remote deployment – DR within days
  • One click recovery and rollback of applications
  • Granular application protection
  • Certified annual managed invocation testing for compliance
  • Reliable invocation and testing methodology
  • Range of options for invocation and connectivity
  • Replication of any environment regardless of storage vendor or architecture
  • Simple pricing model
  • Eliminates the impact of disasters

Matthew Parker, Managing Director, Backup Technology, said: “ClouDRaaS offers that first, safe, step into the cloud by giving you the opportunity to safely evaluate and test the water without having to give up control over production applications in the data centres you are using. It makes effective Disaster Recovery possible within the private cloud, to the public cloud and in the public cloud and because it’s based on virtual replication and is storage and hypervisor agnostic, there’s no need to worry about availability, performance or scalability.”

Sean Casey, Director, Zerto, said: “The global cloud services market is quickly evolving and expanding to include new offerings such as Disaster Recovery as a Service. Cloud service providers have a unique opportunity to help customers overcome inflexible IT infrastructures that are not compatible with disparate technologies because of vendor lock-in. Zerto Virtual Replication is purpose-built to work with any virtualized IT and cloud environment to make it fast and easy to achieve optimal levels of production workload mobility, which is enabling our partners to increase their revenue growth and improve service levels.”

BTL is part of UK cloud hosting solutions company iomart and offers backup and Disaster Recovery from a network of Tier 1 data centres, with industry-leading SLAs and the widest range of ISO accreditations. iomart’s cloud and backup solutions are certified for connection to public sector organisations via PSN and N3.

iomart and BTL accredited for UK Government G-Cloud 6

3 February 2015.

Protect more than 100TB of data for public sector organisations.

Backup Technology (BTL) and parent company iomart (AIM:IOM), one of the UK and Europe’s leading cloud companies, have been awarded places on G-Cloud 6, the UK Government’s Digital Marketplace.

BTL has been accredited as a provider of Specialist Cloud Services which covers a wide range of services including: cloud strategy and implementation; the set up and management of service structures and data transfer between providers. BTL has been on G Cloud since it was first created by the UK Government to make buying cloud services easier for the public sector and to open up competition for contracts to SMEs.

iomart has been accredited to supply Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS); Platform as a Service (PaaS); Software as a Service (SaaS); and Specialist Cloud Services. Among the services it offers are: vCloud and vCloud IaaS – self-managed and hosted virtual infrastructure services based on a VMware vCloud environment; Desktop as a Service; Hosted Exchange and Storage; Business Mail plus Mail and Web Filtering; File Sync and Share; and Advanced DDoS Protection using Arbor Network’s Peakflow solution.

In total iomart and BTL now protect more than 100TBs of data for public sector organisations including the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, two councils in Northern Ireland, and Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (ECFRS), one of the largest county fire services in the UK.

Jan Swanwick, Head of ICT for Essex County Fire & Rescue Service, explains, “Traditionally procurement has been a long, protracted process. With G-Cloud it is very straightforward because all the supplier and product information has already been collated and validated.”

Angus MacSween, CEO of iomart, says, “For public sector organisations the benefits of procuring services through G Cloud are manifest because they don’t have to go through costly and time-intensive due diligence on potential service providers. Cloud services can be bought off-the-shelf quickly and easily because the background checks have already been done.”

Essex County Fire & Rescue Service Procures Cloud Backup Via G-Cloud

Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (ECFRS) is using Backup Technology (BTL) to safeguard the data it generates as it protects local people and property.

ECFRS is one of the largest county fire services in the UK, protecting a population of more than 1.74 million. Its firefighters attend over 24,000 emergency incidents every year.  After its existing backup solution became too difficult to manage, ECFRS chose BTL via the UK Government’s Digital Marketplace for G-Cloud services, to provide an improved managed service.

Jan Swanwick, Head of ICT for Essex County Fire & Rescue Service, explained: “Traditionally procurement has been a long, protracted process. With G-Cloud it is very straightforward because all the supplier and product information has already been collated and validated.”

BTL, which is part of cloud company iomart, protects more than 22TB of data for the fire service using a Public Cloud Backup solution from Asigra.

Paul Hill, Assistant Chief Fire Officer for Safer Communities said: “Saving lives isn’t just about putting out fires and attending emergencies, it is about using the data we collect during our work to protect the people and property of our county. We spend a huge amount of time analysing the data we collect so that we can target our services in the correct and most efficient way. Knowing that this data is protected by Backup Technology is vital to the success of everything we do.”

Rob Mackle, Sales & Service Manager for BTL, said: “The fully managed solution encompasses every aspect of the backup contract from configuration and installation through to the daily monitoring and restoration support of the backups.”

Asigra is the world’s leading online backup software developer and BTL its largest global partner.

Eran Farajun, Executive Vice President of Asigra, said: “Essex County Fire & Rescue’s mission critical operation is a perfect example where data availability can have a real impact on an organisation’s quality of service. BTL understands this and relies on our award-winning data recovery software to provide customers with best-of-breed backup services. This recent deployment highlights the continued momentum of cloud-based data recovery throughout the region.”
