Data loss cases have featured prominently in this year’s biggest blunders. Just last month a laptop belonging to Deloitte, a financial consulting firm, was stolen, containing pension and personal information of thousands of people. The device had personal information about 150,000 railway workers and other clients of Deloitte.
The laptop was being carried in a handbag by an employee of the company and got stolen in a public place. The information on the laptop included names, birth dates, pension contributions, earnings and insurance numbers.
It should be made clear to companies and government agencies that handle such vital personal information, that it could prove to be very dangerous should it fall into the wrong hands. To reduce the chances of misuse of important data, measures have to be taken to safeguard it. For this purpose, creating a backup where this information can be stored and retrieved in case of any unfortunate events is very important.
Online and offsite data backup can protect companies and individuals from losing their data. The main feature of online data backup is that it allows data to be encrypted which keeps it secure.
