Experts urge smaller firms to replicate stored data

Businesses which are considered to be of small or medium size are being instructed by data security experts to start using storage and backup systems which allow them to keep several copies of files and details, to ensure that they are completely protected in the event of a disaster.

IT executive David Marku is leading the calls to make sure that SMBs are not exposing themselves unnecessarily because the data backup policies which they currently use are inadequate in the modern world.

Mr Marku believes that failure to enhance these systems will mean that the impact of data loss on some of the most vulnerable firms could be irreparable.

In an interview, Mr Marku explained that the best way for businesses to protect themselves was first to educate and train employees and managers in the means and methods of backup technology, along with why proper storage and protection of data is necessary for smooth, unbroken operation, even when carried out on a small scale.

Mr Marku is one of many experts who believe that using online backup solutions offers SMBs a much better opportunity to protect the integrity and continuity of their businesses, enabling them to save entire systems along with the data which they store, in a manner not achievable with limited funds onsite.

Cloud computing is at the core of this advice, allowing SMBs to access scalable, advanced services which pass on the costs associated with maintenance to a third party provider, without reducing the effectiveness of the backup and recovery capabilities, according to Mr Marku.

In the face of data loss or an unforeseen disaster which renders information and IT systems inaccessible, many SMBs would buckle and potentially collapse while survivors have to foot a significant bill for lost business, Mr Marku explained.

Mr Marku said that the reputation of a firm hangs on its ability to provide consistent service to its customers and the only way to ensure that business continuity and data loss prevention could be sustained, is to invest in platforms which provide archives containing multiple copies of data.
