A backup can be of three types, namely full backup, differential backup and incremental backup.

Full backup
A full backup of data indicates the backup of all files that might not inculcate any changes if done to any of the files.

Differential data backup
Differential data backup is the backing up of all files including the ones modified, thus an extension to the full backup.

Incremental backup

The backup can be hourly, daily or weekly, which depends on the nature of business. The idea is that it should be regular.
