With all the data loss and data breach incidents that have taken place in the past year, it’s surprising that there are still many UK firms that are taking data security very lightly. Research has found that despite of all the data loss incidents, UK employees are still sending information by post on CDs.
A survey by an IT firm revealed, that 25% of UK businesses have no secure transfer systems and 72% of people who used this method would prefer a more secure way. Another survey revealed that only 33% of IT professionals were worried about storing important information on physical media like memory sticks and CDs. This shows a complete lack of concern by UK firms even though they are aware of the problems caused by data breaches and losses.
After repeating time and again that a secure and reliable backup be made for sensitive information, very few companies seem to have paid heed to the message. Online data backups are available in from many places and advantage should be taken of this. It is important that these firms pull up their socks and get around to safeguarding vital information in case a disaster recovery solution is needed later on for the company.
