Loss of memory stick puts prisoners at risk

In one of the most recent cases of data loss, it was found that a memory stick which contained patient information of more than 6,000 prisoners of Her Majesty’s Prison was lost by a worker of the Central Lancashire Primary Care Trust. It was also revealed that the missing memory stick had an attached note containing the password.

A spokesperson from the Trust commented on the situation and apologised for the unfortunate event saying that the matter was being handled very seriously and an investigation would be carried out. The memory stick held data including surnames, age, appointment times, prison numbers, cell locations and ailments such as asthma, diabetes and mental health problems. The spokesperson claimed that action was being taken to prevent something like this happening again.

Time and again, agencies and companies are being asked to store and protect vital data. Online data backups are readily available, and using them will ensure that important data is encrypted and protected from being lost. Online data backup can reduce data breaches and ensure that important information regarding people’s lives is protected efficiently.
